Privacy
Trivzip is run by To be confirmed (“we”), who is responsible for your information (the “data controller”). You can play every show without an account. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, how long we keep things and what choices you have. We don’t show ads, we don’t use ad trackers and we never sell your information.
When you play as a guest
- Your nickname, the answers you lock in and your score are saved with that show on our server, so the scoreboard is right for everyone. Leave the nickname blank and you get a guest name.
- Your seat is remembered in this browser only, so you can come back to the show. Clearing your browser data removes it.
- Finished shows, with their nicknames and scores, stay on our server. We don’t yet delete them on a schedule.
If you make an account
- You can play without one. To host, keep your history, have a profile or follow people, you sign in. What we receive depends on how you sign in:
- Apple: a private ID from Apple and, if you allow it, your name and email (which may be an Apple “Hide My Email” address);
- Google: a private ID from Google, your name, email address and profile photo address;
- an emailed one-time code: your email address; we send you a 6-digit code through our email provider.
- We keep your name, email address, which sign-in you used, and the shows you hosted or played while signed in. We never show your email address to other people.
- Hosts’ names are shown to players, never their email addresses.
- If you’re asked to accept the Terms before you host, we keep that you did: the Terms version, your confirmation that you’re 18 or older and the date, nothing else. We also count the minutes your shows are live each month, for any monthly limit on hosting.
- If you host, deleting your account also deletes your promo photos and videos.
Your profile
- Every account has a public profile, at an address like trivzip.com/@dana. Anyone, signed in or not, can see your @username, display name, profile picture and short bio if you add them; the one link you choose to share; the public quizzes you’ve hosted and played, with their titles, dates, covers and results, unless you’ve hidden them; and who you follow and who follows you.
- Never public: your email address, how you signed in, and private quizzes. Private quizzes may appear only as a number (for example “+4 private quizzes”), never their titles, hosts or players.
- You control it. “Show on my profile” is on for each public quiz by default; you can turn it off for any quiz. Hosts can delete a past show completely. You can change or remove your picture, bio and link at any time.
- Following. When you follow someone we keep that link so we can show it and, if you turn it on, tell you when they schedule a show. You can unfollow, remove a follower or block someone at any time. Following notifications use the same push details described under Reminders.
- Profile pages are hidden from search engines.
Video
- The host’s camera and microphone go live to players through our video provider, LiveKit. Trivzip does not record shows.
- Players never send video or sound. Their camera and microphone are never used.
Reports and blocking
- If you report a show, a promo or a profile, we keep the reason you chose, any details you wrote and the time. To stop repeat reports, we also keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your internet address, never the address itself. Reports and that scrambled address are deleted after 30 days.
- If someone reports a profile, its photo is hidden until we review it.
- Blocking a host from a show’s menu is saved only in your browser. We never learn who you blocked that way.
- If you block someone while signed in, we keep the block with your account until you unblock them or delete your account. It removes any follows between you, and neither of you can follow the other.
Reminders
- If you turn on a reminder for a show, we keep the notification address your browser gives us or, in the iPhone app, the device code Apple gives us. It’s linked to that show and your “I’m in” code, not to your name.
- We use it only to tell you about that show: 5 minutes before it starts, if the host goes live early, or if the show is cancelled. The message goes through your browser’s push service (run by Google, Mozilla, Microsoft or Apple) or, in the app, through Apple.
- We delete it about an hour after the show starts or is cancelled, or straight away when you turn the reminder off or say you’re no longer in.
- If you follow someone and turn on notifications about hosts you follow, we keep your device’s notification address (or the device code Apple gives the app) linked to your account until you sign out on that device or delete your account. Turning those notifications off stops them; on the website it also deletes the address.
- You can also turn notifications off for this site in your browser, or for Trivzip in your iPhone’s Settings.
Promos
- A host can add a promo photo, or a video of up to 30 seconds, to a show. We store it on our server and show it with that show: in Find a show for public shows, in the waiting room, and after the show ends.
- Before anyone sees it, we remove location data and other camera details from the file.
- We keep promos, including ones a host has replaced, until the host deletes their account. Deleting a host account deletes that host’s promo photos and videos.
- If someone reports a promo, we hide it until the Trivzip owner reviews it.
Your choices and rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- see and get a copy of the information linked to your account, by emailing us;
- correct your name, username, picture, bio and link on your account page;
- hide any quiz from your profile, and delete past shows you hosted;
- delete your account at any time from your account page in the app or on the website. That removes your account, sign-ins, profile, follows, game history and promos, and cancels your upcoming shows. If you used Sign in with Apple, we also tell Apple to disconnect Trivzip from your Apple ID; if we can’t, you can remove it under Settings › Apple Account › Sign in with Apple on your iPhone. On past scoreboards your nickname becomes “Player”;
- object to how we use your information, or ask us to limit it, by emailing us.
If you’re in the EU, UK or a US state with a privacy law (such as California), these are also your legal rights. We rely on our agreement with you (to run the service you asked for) and our legitimate interest in keeping Trivzip safe (for reports, abuse limits and security). You can complain to your local data protection authority, but please talk to us first.
We don’t sell or “share” your personal information for advertising, as those words are used in California law.
Children
Trivzip isn’t meant for children under 13, and hosts must be 18 or older. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. We don’t ask for birthdays; guests can play with a nickname and no account. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account or given us information, email privacy@trivzip.com and we’ll delete it. We give players aged 13 to 17 the same privacy controls as everyone, and we recommend they use a fun nickname instead of their real name.
Where your information is stored
Our servers are in the United States. If you use Trivzip from elsewhere, your information is transferred to and stored in the US. Where the law requires it, we rely on our providers’ standard contractual clauses for these transfers.
Other things to know
- Like any website, our server sees your internet address when you connect. It uses it to slow down abuse. We don’t save it with your answers or scores.
- Saying “I’m in” for a scheduled show stores a random code from this browser so you’re counted once. It isn’t linked to your name. If you also turn on a reminder, see Reminders above.
- The website stores a few things in your browser so it works: your seat in a show, your “I’m in” code, the hosts you blocked and whether you’re signed in. We don’t use cookies for advertising or tracking, which is why there’s no cookie banner.
- No ads, no ad trackers, and we don’t sell or share your data. Our server runs on Google Cloud. Emailed sign-in codes are sent by our email provider.
Changes to this page
If we change this page in a way that matters, we’ll say so in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date below always shows the latest version.
